What is EMDR?
EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing) is a gradual phased approach to treating the symptoms of trauma by safely re-connecting with the traumatic experiences through our thoughts emotions and body sensations, it allows the brain to use its natural healing powers and move toward something more manageable. When we experience trauma, our brains become overwhelmed and unable to heal naturally, leaving us with negative feelings and distressing symptoms. Trauma literally gets stuck in our brain.
EMDR uses bi-lateral stimulation in the form of eye movement or tapping for example. This allows for the memory to be unstuck, stored back in our 'past' and give us some peace.
Is E.M.D.R for me?
As a therapist, i use EMDR therapy to address a wide range of challenges. Trauma can present itself in many ways.
It can come from a one off event or series of them, either way, the results can affect us in our everyday lives, affecting our relationships, mental and physical health.
